Ayurveda: the Science of Life

The Goal of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is over 5000 years old and comes from the same Rishis (wise beings) that discovered Yoga. It is the sister science of Yoga; you cannot have one without the other. It is said that there can be no healing in Yoga without Ayurveda and there can be no spirituality in Ayurveda without Yoga. Ayurveda is based in a five element theory; earth, water, fire, air and space. These elements create the world, us and everything around us. Organized within those elements are qualities or gunas, things like hot, cold, dry, sticky, wet, rough etc. It is within this framework of language that we can describe and look upon ourselves and our environment.

The goal of Ayurveda is to create and maintain balance for humans in our environment. Your practitioner will consider your health history, digestive, reproductive, emotional, and family history. Pulse diagnosis is used to read the qualities and elements within your body. Tongue diagnosis can determine many things, from health history to your digestive capacity. Your practitioner uses many tools to consider your health and evaluate in what area of your mind/body can be improved. Ayurveda has protocols to support general wellness, digestive disorders, insomnia, menstrual issues and fertility, metabolic disorders, auto-immune disorders and more.
